Bio

Ben Tiede is an independent artist and designer based in Hong Kong. He uses wood blocks, watercolors, inks, and acrylic paints to create original works of art on paper, canvas, wood and leather.
 
Originally from the U.S., Ben has traveled extensively in Asia.  He has lived in Kyoto, Saint Paul, New York City and Hong Kong. Each city has influenced his artwork.
 
Ben began painting at a young age in Kyoto, Japan, where he was exposed to the contemporary work of Toru Shoya and trained regularly in Japanese calligraphy starting at the age of 8. He continued to paint after returning to the U.S. and attended studio art courses at Wesleyan University and at Macalester College. Ben earned his Bachelor of Arts from Macalester.
